Women will drive Bangladesh’s future: Farida Akhter

Women will be the main architects of Bangladesh’s future and will not lag behind in any sector, said Farida Akhter, Adviser on Fisheries and Livestock to the interim government.

Farida made the remarks at the ‘July Konna Award 2025’ ceremony held on Friday at the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, where she spoke on women’s rights and their vital role in nation-building.

“Sex workers deserve dignity and their children deserve rights,” she said, calling for social recognition and inclusion.

Addressing concerns about the Women’s Reform Commission, Farida clarified that the commission has not made any statements against the Qur’an and said the issue was a misunderstanding.

She also stressed that advocating for women’s rights does not conflict with religious values.

The event featured the announcement of the July Declaration, which pledged to promote women’s contributions, protect their rights, and combat cyberbullying. During the ceremony, 100 women were honored with awards.
