Women's Day today
The International Women's Day (IWD) 2025 will be celebrated today (March 8) all across the globe with a view to emphasising the urgent need for gender equality and women's empowerment.
The theme of this year's IWD is 'Accelerate Action'.
In Bangladesh, different government, private, social, cultural and women's platforms have arranged various programmes including processions, rallies, cultural events, and discussions to celebrate the day.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and all private television channels have lined up special programmes for the day.
Newspapers and media outlets are publishing special supplements and feature stories to mark the day.
On the eve of the day, Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus Friday issued a message expressing the hope that the country's womenfolk will move forward in line with the developed world to materialise the dream of building a developed Bangladesh.
Marking the day, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has taken elaborate programmes. The Jatiya Press Club (JPC) will hold a discussion at its Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall at 11am today with JPC President Hasan Hafiz in the chair.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, a rickshaw rally will be organised by the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) from city's Banani Beltola area to Karail ground at 11:30am today.
A colorful rally will be held at the initiative of Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Mohila Dal on the same day. The rally will start from in front of the BNP’s Naya Paltan central office in the capital around 11am and end at the same venue after parading different city streets.
International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year.
