Won't back down from education reform over trolling-criticism: Education Minister
Trolling, criticism or propaganda will not be able to divert the government from the path of education reform in any way, said Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon. He said the government is working with the responsibility of improving the country's education system and educating the nation, and will not deviate from this duty under any pressure or criticism.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting and orientation programme for freshers on the occasion of the inauguration of academic activities at Naogaon University on Saturday (July 18) .
The Education Minister said those who have trolled him on social media, he has not seen any actual examinees among them. He also pointed out that students from City College, Ideal College or Viqarunnisa Noon School were not seen in the protests. He alleged that a group had misled students and created unnecessary chaos.
Referring to the recent controversy over the HSC examinations, he said decisions were taken after consulting all concerned before arranging the examinations. He had also informed students of his concerns over holding exams in the rain. However, he alleged that a part of his statement was distorted and presented negatively to spread propaganda.
The Education Minister said, "We have been entrusted with the responsibility of educating the nation. No matter how much anyone trolls or slanders us, we cannot be deviated from our proper duty."
He further said that merely receiving education is not enough; its quality must also be ensured. Referring to his experience as State Minister for Education from 2001 to 2006, he said education sector reforms are currently being carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and injustice will not be tolerated in any way.
Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives State Minister Mir Shah Alam said at the event that the government is emphasising skill-based education instead of education that is not effective in state and personal life.
University Grants Commission Chairman Mamun Ahmed said the commencement of academic activities at Naogaon University is a historic moment for the region. The students of the first batch will lay the foundation of this university.
Earlier, the Education Minister inaugurated academic activities by unveiling the nameplate of the temporary campus of Naogaon University. He later visited classrooms, libraries and computer labs. At the orientation programme, saplings of mango trees were handed over to 80 students of the first batch .
Naogaon University, established in 2023, received approval to commence teaching in Law and Accounting and Information departments in December 2025. After the completion of student admissions for the 2025-26 academic session, academic activities formally began .
