Worker found dead in Kamrangirchar hostel toilet

A worker was found dead with injuries inside a hostel toilet in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area late Wednesday night (April 22).

The deceased, identified as Yakub Ali, 25, was a staff member of a private company and resided in a workers’ hostel adjacent to his workplace.

Colleagues rescued him from the toilet and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

According to Bazlur Rahman, an assistant manager at the company, the toilet door was found open and Yakub was discovered in an injured condition inside. He said the circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.

Family members suspect murder. Yakub’s elder brother, Md. Arfan, said he became suspicious after seeing the body and believes his brother may have been killed.

Kamrangirchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Faruk said the victim had reportedly complained of feeling unwell before the incident.

"It is too early to determine whether the death was due to homicide or other causes," he added.

Police said the body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
