A construction worker, Md Atiar Rahman (45), was killed and two others were injured after the wall of an under-construction septic tank collapsed at an educational institution in Morelganj upazila, Bagerhat.

The accident occurred around 12pm on Saturday (August 1) at the Ghulishakhali Fazil Madrasa premises in the upazila.

The deceased, Atiar Rahman, was a resident of Ashrail village in Jashore and the son of Md Badruddoza. The injured workers were identified as Nayan and Mominul.

Police said continuous rainfall had softened the soil around the under-construction septic tank, causing the wall to collapse while workers were inside, burying them.

Police, fire service personnel and locals launched a rescue operation and recovered Atiar Rahman's body from the debris. The two injured workers were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Morelganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahamudur Rahman said the body was sent to the morgue of Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital for autopsy. Necessary legal measures are being taken regarding the incident.
