Worker tied up and tortured at brick kiln in Lakshmipur, case filed against supervisor
A brick kiln worker has filed a case of torture after being tied up and beaten at a kiln in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur. The victim named kiln supervisor Md Ismail Hossain and four to five others as accused in the case.
The case was filed at Kamalnagar Police Station on Friday night, April 10. Police said the accused have been on the run since the case was filed.
According to police sources, the torture took place on Thursday night in the Chungar Gura area of Torabganj union in the upazila. A video of the incident spread on social media on Friday night, sparking widespread criticism.
In the video, the victim, labourer Kalu Mia, is seen hanging with both hands tied to a beam inside a room. The accused, Ismail Hossain, is seen beating him with a stick and using foul language while forcing him to promise not to run away from the kiln in the future.
The victim, Kalu Mia, 40, is a resident of the Char Basu Badamtali area in Char Kadira union of the upazila. He is the son of Mohammad Ibrahim. Accused Ismail Hossain is a resident of ward 3 in Torabganj union.
Accused Ismail Hossain claimed that Kalu Mia had taken money from him and fled work multiple times. He said he hit him with a stick 'once or twice' to warn other workers.
He further claimed that the video was sent to workers at a brick kiln in Chattogram, from where it spread.
The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Safayat Hossain of Kamalnagar Police Station, said the victim has filed the case, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
The incident has caused widespread outrage on social media, with locals demanding speedy justice for the torture.
