Workers protest at Chattogram Port surrounding Shipping Adviser's car
The workers at Chattogram port have been staging a protest stopping the vehicle of Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain.
Source said, the vehicle was made stopped before it entered the port building on Thursday (February 5). They protested against the removal of Port Chairman M Moniruzzaman and the control of foreign companies at the port.
The workers and employees kept chanting slogans – ‘DP World brokers, be careful’, ‘Go back Adviser, go back’, ‘Mama Mati Mohana, we will never handover to foreigners’.
Later, the situation calmed down with the presence of law enforcement agencies.
An indefinite strike is going on at the port on the call of the Port Protection Movement Council. Due to this strike, all activities including loading and unloading containers from ships at the jetty have been stopped. The movement of goods vehicles inside the port has also been stopped.
Adviser Dr. Sakhawat Hossain, while talking to the workers, said that the interim government will not sacrifice the interests of the country. As in the past, mafia groups controlled the port, it will not happen in the future.
He assured the workers that the problem would be resolved through a one-on-one discussion in the afternoon.
