Workers of Alif Casual factory in Gazipur staged a protest on Monday (September 8) over unpaid wages, demanding their dues for the past three months.

According to the industrial police and local sources, the workers began their demonstration at around 8:15 am. The protest escalated when they blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, halting traffic for nearly half an hour.

Industrial police personnel intervened to clear the blockade, leading to a scuffle. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Twenty workers and five police personnel were injured in the clash. The police subsequently brought the situation under control.

Additional Superintendent of Industrial Police, Khalilur Rahman, stated that the factory had been on general leave since August 28 and was scheduled to reopen on Monday. Following the incident, police arrived and order was restored, allowing traffic on the highway to resume.
