A workshop on Multiple Myeloma was held on Monday (March 30) at Milton Hall of Bangladesh Medical University, marking the global observance of Myeloma Action Month.

The event was organised by the Hematology Society of Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Faruk Ahmad, principal of Dhaka Medical College, attended as the chief guest, while the session was chaired by Professor Dr. Amin Lutful Kabir, president of the society.

Among others present were Associate Professor Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, General Secretary of the society, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Monirul Islam, Scientific Secretary, along with leading hematologists, residents, and students from various public and private medical institutions.

The workshop featured discussions on the latest advancements in diagnosis and treatment of multiple myeloma, including modern therapeutic approaches, international management guidelines, early detection, and autologous stem cell transplantation.

During the workshop, experts highlighted that timely diagnosis and access to advanced treatment can significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

In addition to panel discussions, a knowledge-based competitive quiz was held, with winners receiving awards. Speakers emphasised the need to reduce treatment costs, ensure equitable access to care, and raise awareness about the disease.

Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud noted that the number of multiple myeloma cases is increasing in Bangladesh and said the workshop aimed to enhance physicians’ knowledge and skills to deliver improved patient care.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among participants.
