Writ filed seeking direction to identify those responsible for death of 4 children at home
A writ has been filed with the High Court seeking directions to identify those responsible for the deaths of four children who died after being shot while staying at home during the quota reform movement.
The writ also sought instruction of the court to form a three-member judicial inquiry commission to find out the cause of the deaths of those four children.
Trinamool BNP General Secretary and Supreme Court lawyer Taimur Alam Khandkar filed the writ as the plaintiff on Wednesday (July 31).
The writ has also sought the court’s direction to pay Tk 1 crore compensation to each family of the victims. The four children mentioned in the writ are Riya Gope of Narayanganj, Abul Ahad of Rayerbagh, Saffat of Mirpur and Naima Sultana of Uttara in the capital.
The lawyer for the writ petitioner said the names of the dead children were mentioned in the news published in various newspapers.
A High Court bench headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam is likely to hear the writ petition on Thursday (August 1).
The secretary to the home ministry, secretary to the law ministry, inspector general of police and two national dailies have been made defendants in the writ petition.
Lawyer Taimur Alam Khandkar said, “Why the children were shot dead while staying at home despite not taking part in the quota movement? Why is their life not safe? The writ sought directions to compensate the families of the victims and to find out those responsible for the brutal killings.”
“The writ petition has been filed basing on reports published in two national dailies. For this reason, both newspapers have been made defendants in the writ. The writ will be heard in a bench headed by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam,” he added.
