Writ filed seeking suspension of all activities for 13th parliamentary election
A writ petition has been filed seeking suspension of all activities related to the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election. On Wednesday, December 4, Advocate Iarul Islam, secretary general of the registered political party Bangladesh Congress, submitted the petition. He said a High Court division bench is expected to hear the writ next week.
The petition seeks a ruling asking why the decision to appoint deputy commissioners and upazila executive officers as returning officers and assistant returning officers—replacing district and upazila election officers—should not be declared illegal. It also requests suspension of all election-related activities until the rule is heard.
The respondents include the chief election commissioner and other relevant officials.
On November 29, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin said the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election will be announced in the second week of December.
