Yaba worth Tk 16 crore recovered in Ukhia, 1 arrested
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 560,012 pieces of Yaba in a single day during an anti-drug drive in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. During this, BGB members were able to arrest one person. He was later handed over to Ukhia Police Station.
The BGB said that the value of the seized drugs is Tk 168,36,600.
This information was given in a press release sent by the BGB on Friday morning.
The release said that a youth was arrested with Yaba during a drive in the area called Master's Gher under the jurisdiction of Balukhali BGB in Palangkhali Union bordering Ukhia around 8pm on Thursday (June 4). They arrested Mohammad Amin, 20, son of Fazal Karim, a resident of Dhamonkhali village in Palangkhali Union of Ukhia.
Besides, on the same day, BGB recovered 3 lakh pieces of abandoned Yaba from a place called Guizar Khal on the Palangkhali border in Ukhia around 10:30pm, and 2 lakh 12 pieces of ownerless Yaba were recovered from an area called Ichaker Gher in Hoaikyong Union of Teknaf around 1am. However, no one could be arrested in this operation.
Confirming the authenticity of the anti-drug operation, Ukhia Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Zahirul Islam further said that intelligence surveillance has been increased to identify and arrest the escaped drug smugglers.
He further said that BGB is not only working on border guarding but also always taking a strict stance against drugs and smuggling. Such operations will continue in the future.
