Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has expressed anger at Bagerhat district Civil Surgeon ASM Md. Mahbubul Alam for his mobile phone ringing and him talking on it multiple times during an exchange of views meeting. At one stage, the minister asked him to leave the meeting room.

The incident occurred at an exchange of views meeting with local members of parliament, officials of various government departments and representatives of different classes and professions at the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner’s office at noon on Tuesday (September 15).

Officials of two government departments and representatives of a voluntary organization present at the meeting informed that Civil Surgeon Mahbubul Alam was sitting close to the law minister. On the right side of the minister were the deputy commissioner, the DIG of Khulna Range and the police superintendent.

During the meeting, the civil surgeon’s mobile phone rang several times. At one stage, he even went outside the meeting room with the phone.

Finally, when the minister was speaking, the civil surgeon’s mobile phone rang again. Then the law minister said addressing him, “Hey, you, Civil Surgeon saheb, you get out from this room. You have four times telephone... got down from here, got up, done this. You are not too busy like other people. Just get out from this room.”

At that time, someone from behind was heard saying “get out”. After that, Civil Surgeon Mahbubul Alam stood up leaving his seat.

Then the law minister said, “This is indecent, this is a misconduct. You understand that? Sit here. Switch off the phone and sit.”

The minister further said, “You, four times from here sitting-getting up, you have diverted the attention of the speakers. We are sitting here on serious business.”

A video clip of this incident has spread on social media.
