Young man dies at Cox's Bazar beach after going for a swim

A local youth, Yasin Arafat, 30, died after going for a swim at Cox's Bazar beach.

The incident occurred around 10am on Friday, August 7, in the sea adjacent to Sugandha Point. Yasin was the son of Alim Hossain of the Peskarpara area in Cox's Bazar municipality.

Mahbub Alam, supervisor of the district administration's lifeguard team, said Yasin went for a swim in the sea with a few friends in the morning. At one point, he was swept away by a strong current. Hearing his friends' screams, lifeguards on duty rushed to rescue him and brought him ashore.

Yasin was later taken to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital in critical condition, where the emergency department doctor declared him dead.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said police visited the scene after receiving news of the incident. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue. Legal proceedings are underway.

It may be mentioned that earlier on July 24, a tourist from Khulna named Helal Uddin went missing after going for a swim at Cox's Bazar beach. He has not been found even 15 days after the incident.
