Youth arrested in Khagrachhari for reportedly raping toddler

A youth has been arrested in Manikchhari, Khagrachhari, for sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl.

Police arrested Md Sabbir, 18, from the Tin Tahari area of the upazila on Saturday afternoon, April 11.

Sabbir is the son of late Idris Ali of the upazila. He worked at a fruit shop in neighbouring upazila Fatikchhari.

According to local sources and the family, the accused took the child to his home on Wednesday afternoon, April 8, promising to give her cake, and raped her. The family rescued the child from the accused's home after she went missing.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital.

Manikchhari Upazila Executive Officer Tahmina Afroz Bhuiyan said after receiving the complaint from the victim's family, the police station was instructed to file a case, and police took immediate action.

Manikchhari Police Station OC Md Masud Parvez said Sabbir was arrested in an operation on Saturday afternoon. Legal action is being taken after the allegations were found true in preliminary investigation.

The resident doctor at Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital said samples have been collected from the victim and sent to Dhaka for testing, and necessary treatment is ongoing.
