Youth arrested in Magura over attempt to sexually assault 5-year-old

Police have arrested a young man named Kashem (30) in Shalikha, Magura, on charges of attempting to sexually assault a five-year-old child.

Shalikha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashikur Rahman said a case was filed with the police station on behalf of the child's family over the incident, which took place on Tuesday in the Poragachhi area of the upazila .

Police and locals said a local person called the national emergency service 999 to inform police after learning of the attempt. Police from Shalikha station went to the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry before taking Kashem into custody.

Kashem worked as a labourer at a coconut oil mill where children of various ages regularly go to collect oilcake . The victim child also used to go there for the same purpose.

Locals said the child went to the mill on Tuesday to collect oilcake when Kashem, finding the child alone, attempted to assault the child sexually . Police are currently carrying out the legal process regarding the case.
