Youth beaten and hacked to death in school grounds in Abhaynagar

A youth was beaten and hacked to death with a sharp weapon by miscreants in Abhaynagar of Jashore.

The incident took place around 2am on Wednesday at the grounds of Dhalirgati Government Primary School in Prembagh Union of the upazila.

The deceased, Riaz Hossain, 29, is the son of Mansur Ali of Dhalirgati village in the area. Police said that there are several cases against him at Abhaynagar Police Station, including robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking.

According to local sources, some miscreants captured Riaz Hossain at the grounds of Dhalirgati Government Primary School around 1:30am. Then, they beat him and hacked him with a sharp weapon and fled, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, on receiving information, police rescued him from the spot and took him to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr. Md. Sabuj said that Riaz died before being brought to the hospital. There were multiple injury marks on his body and head and it is believed that he died due to excessive bleeding.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Abhaynagar Police Station Md. Nuruzzaman said that there are multiple cases against the deceased Riaz Hossain. The post-mortem examination of the body has been completed. A drive is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
