Youth beaten to death on charges of insulting religion, body set on fire
A Hindu youth was beaten to death on charges of insulting religion in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.
The incident took place on Thursday night in Dubaliapara in the Square Masterbari area of the upazila, according to police.
According to police information, the deceased youth has been identified as Dipu Chandra Das. He was working in a local garment factory and was initially reported to be living in a rented house in the area.
Bhaluka Police Station Duty Officer Ripon Mia told that a group of agitated people caught Dipu Chandra Das and beat him up around 9 pm on Thursday night, accusing him of insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He died on the spot and the body was then tied to a tree and set on fire.
Receiving information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Later, the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
No case has been filed in this incident so far. In this regard, Ripon Mia said that the relatives of the deceased are being searched. If they file a case, necessary action will be taken according to the law.
