Youth beaten to death over theft allegation in Ishwardi
A young man named Manik Hossain Sumon, 32, was beaten to death over an allegation of theft in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna. The incident took place around 3am on Sunday (August 2) in the Mistripara Thandatola area of Sahapur Union in the upazila.
Locals claimed that Sumon entered the grocery shop of businessman Habibul Islam late at night with the intention of committing theft. Habibul Islam, who lives next to the shop, heard the noise and came out, attempting to apprehend him. At that time, Sumon attacked Habibul Islam and his son Shakil with a sharp weapon, indiscriminately injuring them.
Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the scene, caught Sumon and beat him. He died on the spot. The injured Habibul Islam and his son are undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashadur Rahman said the body of the deceased has been recovered. The body is being sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal action is being taken regarding the incident, and a detailed investigation is underway.
