Youth ‘beaten to death’ over theft allegation in Khulna

A young man was beaten to death allegedly by some people over theft charge in Harintana of Khulna city early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ajmal, son of Kutub, of the Gallamari area, reports UNB.

Iqbal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Harintana Police Station, said that, according to a ward boy, several young men identifying themselves as Khulna University students took Ajmal to Khulna Medical College Hospital around 1:30 am.

He died shortly after being taken to the hospital, said OC.

The youths told hospital authorities that they had caught Ajmal red-handed while he was attempting to steal from a four-storey building outside the Khulna University area.

They said Ajmal later jumped from the fourth floor of a building out of fear and sustained serious injuries.

However, several injury marks were found on his body, including on his hands and legs. His hair had also been cut.

Police are investigating the incident, said the OC.
