Youth critically injured in mine blast at Ukhiya border

A young man named Badi Alam, 32, was critically injured in a landmine explosion in an area adjacent to the Myanmar border in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. The incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday in the Balukhali border area of Palongkhali union in the upazila. The injured Badi Alam is the son of Sona Mia of the Balukhali Jumer Chhara area.

Local sources said that when he went to the border-adjacent area in the morning to catch fish, a landmine previously planted inside Myanmar territory exploded. This severely damaged Badi Alam's right leg and the right side of his body.

Locals rescued him and first took him to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong, Ukhiya. After initial treatment there, as his condition worsened, he was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Azad, in-charge of Balukhali police outpost, said one person was critically injured in the mine explosion. He has been admitted to hospital, and necessary information about the incident is being collected.

Chairman of Palongkhali Union Parishad, M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury, also confirmed that one person was injured in a mine explosion in the border area.
