Youth detained in Meherpur over alleged abusive remarks against PM
Police in Meherpur have detained a young man named Sanjoy Kumar Das over allegations that he used abusive language and issued threats against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in a social media post.
He was detained from the Garpukur area of Meherpur town on Friday night (September 18). Sanjoy is the son of Hiron Kumar Das of Govipur village in Sadar upazila.
Police said Sanjoy posted a video on his Facebook profile on Friday night. According to police, he was seen using abusive language and making threats against Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the video.
After the video was circulated on social media, police became aware of it. They later conducted an operation and detained Sanjoy from the Garpukur area that night before taking him to the Sadar police station.
Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir confirmed the detention, saying Sanjoy had been detained over allegations of posting a video containing abusive remarks about the prime minister on social media.
“He is being questioned. The process of taking legal action against him is underway,” the OC said.
