A young man was killed after being electrocuted and falling from a rooftop while trying to capture Argentina supporters' World Cup victory celebrations in Netrakona early Thursday (July 16).

The incident took place around 3:30am near the Shaheed Minar intersection in the district town, shortly after Argentina secured a place in the World Cup final.

The deceased was identified as Dipto Chowdhury, 26, the only son of Badal Chowdhury from the town's Malni area.

According to witnesses and his friend Zubayer Ahmed Sajid, Argentina supporters gathered at the Shaheed Minar intersection to celebrate the team's victory over England. Seeking to film the celebrations from above, Dipta climbed onto the rooftop of a building adjacent to a Singer showroom.

While recording photos and videos, he reportedly came into contact with a live electrical line, was electrocuted and fell from the rooftop, sustaining critical injuries.

Locals rushed him to Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

The tragic incident has cast a pall over the celebrations, leaving his family and the local community in mourning.

Al-Mamun Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Netrakona Model Police Station, said, "Legal procedures are underway."
