Youth dies after falling between train coaches in Narsingdi

A young man was killed after falling between two coaches while trying to get down from the roof of a moving Titas Commuter train at Narsingdi Railway Station.

The incident took place around 7:30am as the train was leaving the station on Friday morning (August 14), police and the victim’s family said.

The deceased was identified as Amir Hossain, 26. He had travelled to Akhaura in Brahmanbaria with two friends to visit Kella Shah’s shrine. On their return, they reportedly boarded the train roof after being unable to get inside because of overcrowding.

After the train stopped at Narsingdi station, passengers began getting down from the roof. As the train started moving again, Amir reportedly attempted to climb down in haste. He lost his balance and fell into the gap between two coaches, with the train dragging him for about 30 yards.

Local residents rescued him and took him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Farida Gulshanara Kabir, the hospital’s resident medical officer, confirmed that Amir was brought to the hospital already dead.

Dilip Chandra Sarker, a sub-inspector at the Narsingdi Railway Police outpost, said the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy following their request.
