A youth has filed a written complaint with Sudharam Model Police Station in Noakhali against the FIFA President and a match referee, alleging biased refereeing in a World Cup match. He has also demanded BDT 5 crore in compensation in his complaint.

The complainant, Md. Rakib, 22, is a resident of Mandartali village in Noakhali Sadar upazila. He went to the police station with the written complaint on Wednesday night (July 8). However, police stated that the local police station lacks the legal jurisdiction to handle such matters.

In his complaint, Rakib claimed that while watching the World Cup match between Argentina and Egypt on a big screen at the local Koromulla Bazar on Tuesday night, he noticed the match referee intentionally favoring one team. As a result, his supported team, Egypt, was defeated.

He named FIFA President Gianni Infantino, match referee François Letexier, and 15 to 20 others as accused in the complaint. He alleged that the match outcome was influenced through unfair penalties, the cancellation of a valid goal, and biased decisions against Egypt's players and coach.

Stating that he and other Egyptian supporters suffered mental distress due to these incidents, he demanded BDT 5 crore in compensation from FIFA and legal action against those involved under international law.

Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kamrul Islam said that the local police station does not have the jurisdiction to accept such a complaint. The matter was explained to the complainant, and he was advised to approach an international court if necessary.

Meanwhile, Rakib stated on Thursday morning that since the police did not record the case, he will approach the court with the same complaint. If necessary, he will also organize human chains and other protest programs.
