Youth found with severe injuries in locked room in Jashore

Unidentified assailants broke into a rented house in Jashore city and critically injured a young man named Akash (26) with sharp weapons. After the attack, they locked the door from outside and fled. Neighbours later broke the lock and recovered Akash in a critically injured state, taking him to hospital. Doctors have said his condition is critical.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning, August 25, at a rented flat in Mumin's house on Ghop Central Road in the city.

Akash is the son of Arif Mia of Magura Sadar upazila. He used to live in a rented flat at Mumin's house on Ghop Central Road.

Police and local sources said neighbours heard groaning and sounds of scuffling coming from the flat in the morning. Later, when some of them went to check, they found a lock hanging on the door from outside. Suspecting something was wrong, they broke the lock and entered the room. They found Akash lying on the floor in a critically injured state.

Locals later took him to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital.

Dr Bichitra Mallik, in-charge of the hospital's emergency department, said Akash had sustained sharp weapon injuries on his head, back and other parts of his body. He was unconscious due to excessive blood loss. As his condition was critical, he was transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Kazi Babul Akhter, Inspector (Investigation) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station, said police visited the scene after receiving the information. As the injured youth was unconscious, the motive behind the attack and the identity of those involved could not be confirmed yet.

He said information would be gathered from Akash once he regains consciousness. Steps would then be taken to uncover the motive and identify and arrest those involved.
