Youth hacked to death in broad daylight outside passport office in Mymensingh

A young man was hacked to death in broad daylight outside the regional passport office in Mymensingh city on Thursday (August 13), triggering panic in the area.

The victim was identified as Md Rabbi, 27, a student at a private polytechnic college and son of Mobarak Hossain Bhutta of South Para on Maskanda High School Road.

The attack took place around 12 noon near the passport office in the Maskanda area, according to police and local sources.

Rabbi was reportedly standing outside the passport office when a group of youths armed with local weapons suddenly attacked him. Trying to escape, he ran into a nearby shop for shelter.

The attackers allegedly followed him into the shop and repeatedly hacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene, leaving him critically injured.

Local residents rescued Rabbi in a blood-soaked condition and rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident has left the area tense, with fear spreading among local residents.

Shibirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, said, "Police were collecting CCTV footage from the passport office and surrounding areas to identify those involved."

"Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the attackers," he said.
