Youth hacked to death in Keraniganj
A youth named Farhad Hossain, 25, has been hacked to death in Keraniganj of Dhaka. The attack took place at a salon in Arshinagar area of Shakta union on Tuesday afternoon. He was rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 4pm.
The victim’s family alleged that the killing took place as a fallout of a dispute over setting up a fish shop on the footpath in Mohammadpur of the capital.
According to the family and local sources, Farhad lived with his family in Member Gali of Arshinagar under Shakta union of Keraniganj Model Police Station. His village home is in Bhola. He sold fish on the footpath in Mahirgola area of Mohammadpur in the capital in the morning and returned to Keraniganj in the afternoon.
Local resident Zakir Hossain Sikdar claimed that members of a teenage gang in Mohammadpur had demanded Tk 50,000 as toll from Farhad for doing fish business on the footpath. Alongside giving that amount at a time, separate toll was also demanded every day. A dispute was created with them as Farhad did not agree to this.
According to the victim’s family, after finishing fish sales in the morning on Tuesday Farhad went to a salon in Arshinagar area of Shakta union in the afternoon to get a haircut. There 10 to 15 people led by Sabbir and Arman attacked him. At that time he was randomly hacked and critically injured. Later locals rescued him and took him to DMCH Hospital. Doctors there declared him dead.
In-charge inspector of DMCH Hospital police outpost Md Habibur Rahman said a fish trader named Farhad Hossain was admitted to the hospital in a critically injured condition from Keraniganj. Later after his death the body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station Ruhul Quddus said the incident originated in Mohammadpur area of the capital. Terrorists hacked and injured Farhad Hossain over the fish business. Later he was attacked at a salon in Arshinagar area. He died after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critically injured condition.
