Youth hacked to death in Khulna
A young man was hacked and reportedly had his throat slit by some assailants in Rupsha upazila of Khulna on Saturday night (August 15).
The victim, identified as Joy Dhali, was attacked at around 9:15pm in front of a tea stall in Durjanimahel village of Aichgati Union, according to police and local residents.
Local sources said Joy had been spending time at Litu’s tea stall at Shahid’s Mor since the evening. Several youths arrived on motorcycles around 9:15pm and began talking to him. Shortly afterwards, two of them allegedly attacked Joy with sharp weapons, causing him to collapse.
The attackers then reportedly slit his throat before fleeing the scene.
Joy was involved in running his own fish farm and was also a member of the B Company, a local armed group, according to police and local sources. He had reportedly been involved in a dispute with some of the alleged attackers in recent days, raising suspicion that the killing may have stemmed from the conflict.
Ujjal, an assistant sub-inspector and in-charge of the Aichgati Police Camp, said police recovered Joy’s body from Shahid’s Mor after receiving information about the attack.
The body was examined at the scene before being sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, he said.
Khulna Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tajul Islam said Joy was a member of B Company and had seven cases, including those related to assault, filed against him at Rupsha Police Station.
“Preliminary findings suggest that the killing may have resulted from an internal conflict within B Company. We are trying to determine the exact motive and identify those responsible,” he said.
Police have launched an operation to arrest the suspects.
