A young man named Ranjit Chandra Sarkar has been detained by police for allegedly secretly filming two women at the Karwan Bazar metro station in the capital.

The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Friday, August 14, on the station's staircase.

Police said the detained Ranjit Chandra Sarkar is the son of Prahallad Chandra Sarkar from Shubhpur village in Cumilla Sadar. He works as a garment worker.

The two victims are students of Holy Family Red Crescent Nursing College. According to the complaint, Ranjit was secretly filming them from behind with his mobile phone while they were descending the stairs from the metro station.

The two women noticed the act and protested. With the help of bystanders, they detained Ranjit and informed police, who arrived and took him into custody.

Police claimed that upon examining Ranjit's phone, they found videos of the two women. One of the victims alleged that the phone contained many more videos of other women, filmed from behind while walking.

She said Ranjit had positioned himself in front of them while descending the stairs and held his phone backwards to film them. When they asked to see his phone, he refused, claiming it contained personal photos. The filming was later confirmed after the phone was examined.

Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kaishnyu Marma said the accused is currently at the police station. No case has been filed yet, and the matter is under investigation.
