Youth held with pistol at Minister's rally in Natore
Police have detained a young man with a pistol from a roadside meeting of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and Chief Whip Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu at the Uttara Ganabhaban in Natore.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khayer Alam said the detention took place on Friday afternoon, August 7.
The detainee has been identified as Tanim, son of Shamsul Alam of the Kanaikhali area in Natore town.
Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mansur Rahman said the minister and the chief whip were addressing a roadside meeting in front of the Uttara Ganabhaban gate after concluding their visit to the site on Friday around 3pm.
He said Tanim approached the minister and the chief whip as they were leaving the stage after their speeches. Suspicious of his behaviour, police questioned him and later recovered a pistol from his possession.
Additional SP Ifte Khayer Alam said the young man was detained as he approached the minister and the chief whip while they were getting into their vehicle. The recovered pistol is being examined and the detainee is being interrogated.
Further details will be provided after the interrogation is completed, he added.
Officials from the district administration, police and tourism department were present at the scene.
