Youth held with replica firearm at Shahbagh metro station

Police have detained a youth with an object resembling a firearm at the capital's Shahbagh metro station. He was detained during a routine search on Thursday morning.

MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) Police Inspector Mohammad Sohel Chowdhury said an object resembling a firearm was found with the youth during routine security checks of passengers at the station. It was later seized and he was detained.

Police said the recovered object, though resembling a firearm, is a replica.

During preliminary interrogation, the detained youth said he had come to Shahbagh metro station to go to Motijheel.

Police said the detained youth is a student of a madrasa in Jatrabari. MRT Police said legal action is underway regarding this incident.

Police also said regular search operations continue to ensure passenger safety at metro rail stations.
