Youth killed after being hit by train while heading to job-interview in Dhaka
A young man was killed after being struck by a train while crossing railway tracks in Dhaka's Kuril Bishwaroad area on Sunday morning (July 12) as he was on his way to a job interview.
The deceased was identified as Rakibul Islam, 28, son of Mofizul Islam from Char Khalifa village in Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola district.
According to police and witnesses, the accident took place around 6:30am amid light rain. Rakib was crossing the railway tracks near the Kuril Bishwaroad rail crossing with an umbrella when a speeding train hit him, leaving him critically injured.
He was first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at around 8:30am.
Family members were informed after police traced them through Rakib's mobile phone. His father said Rakib had recently completed his honours degree from a local college and had travelled to Dhaka to attend a job interview.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, while the Dhaka Railway Police have been notified to initiate legal proceedings.
