Youth killed as bomb blast destroys house in Shariatpur
A young man was killed when a powerful bomb explosion ripped through a residential house in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur early Thursday (January 8).
The blast took place around 4:00am in Mulai Beparir Kandi village under Bilaspur union, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sohan, a resident of the village.
According to eyewitnesses and police, a loud explosion shattered the silence before dawn, blowing off the tin roof and walls of the house and leaving it completely demolished. The force of the blast scattered debris across the area.
Police later recovered chemical substances and bomb-making materials from the scene, raising suspicion that explosives were being manufactured inside the house.
Saleh Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jajira Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying the area had been tense for several days and law enforcement agencies were on alert.
“After hearing the explosion, locals rushed to the spot and found the house destroyed. The body of a young man was lying a short distance away,” he said.
Police recovered the body and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and identify those responsible. Legal action will be taken following the completion of the probe, the OC added.
