Youth killed in BSF firing at Habiganj border

A young man named Sohag Mia (20) has been killed in firing by India's Border Security Force (BSF) in the border area of Chunarughat, Habiganj. The incident occurred on Sunday morning (August 30) in the Chimtibil border area of Ahmadabad union in the upazila.

The deceased was the son of Shafiq Mia, a resident of the area. Family members said that as usual, he had gone to graze cattle in the border area on Sunday morning. The family alleges that shortly after he went there, BSF personnel opened fire on him.

After hearing the gunshots, family members went looking for Sohag when they could not find him. Relatives found him lying in the border area at one point. Later, several people recovered him and took him to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctor Sirajam Munira declared him dead after examination.

The victim's uncle, Abdul Kadir, said Sohag regularly went to the border area to graze cattle. He was killed by BSF firing on Sunday morning after going there. Following the incident, the family is in shock as well as fear.

Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Islam confirmed Sohag's death. He said the exact cause of death would be known after the autopsy is completed.

Meanwhile, multiple attempts were made to contact the Habiganj-55 BGB for their version of the incident, but no official responded to phone calls. A WhatsApp message also went unanswered. Following the incident, anxiety has spread among locals in the border area. The victim's family has demanded an investigation into the incident and necessary action against those responsible.
