Youth killed in clash at Cox’s Bazar hotel bar
A young man was killed after a clash broke out following an argument at the bar of Renaissance Hotel in Cox’s Bazar city on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Rashed, was seriously injured in the altercation at around 11:30pm and later died. His body has been kept at the morgue of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station.
According to police, a dispute broke out among several people inside the bar before two men were called in from outside and attacked. Rashed, one of the two, was severely beaten during the ensuing scuffle and sustained critical injuries.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Ahidur Rahman confirmed the account, saying Rashed was among the two men who entered the bar after being called from outside. A physical altercation then broke out between them and people already inside the bar.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the bar and questioning employees to identify those involved, Ahidur said. Several police teams have been deployed to arrest the suspects.
The bar has been closed following the incident while police collect evidence and complete other investigative procedures.
“The bar has been closed to preserve evidence and facilitate the investigation,” Ahidur said, adding that authorities would also examine the venue’s security and access-control arrangements.
Police said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
