Youth killed in road accident in Naya Paltan

A young man was killed after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing a road in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan area early Wednesday (September 30).

The victim, Mizanur Rahman, 24, was hit near the Gazi Shopping Complex around 5:30am, according to Sub-Inspector Zahid Hasan of Paltan Police Station.

Police rescued Mizanur in critical condition and rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 6:45am.

Mizanur’s identity was initially unknown following the accident. Police later identified him through fingerprints collected by a forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department.

Police said Mizanur had a mental health condition and lived around the BNP office area in Naya Paltan. His father is Mafizur Rahman, and their ancestral home is in Kobpurkathi village of Dashmina upazila in Patuakhali.
