A young man was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Kurigram on Saturday morning (January 10). The incident took place in Kachichar Farazi Para village of Panchgachhi Union in Kurigram Sadar Upazila. Police recovered the body from the scene, and three people have been detained for questioning. According to police and local sources, residents suspected the youth of attempting theft late Friday night and detained him. He died at the scene after being beaten. Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station, said the victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed and that action will be taken following an investigation. &nbsp;

কুড়িগ্রামে চোর সন্দেহে অজ্ঞাতনামা এক যুবককে পিটিয়ে হত্যার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। শনিবার (১০ জানুয়ারি) সকালে কুড়িগ্রাম সদর উপজেলার পাঁচগাছী ইউনিয়নের কাচিচর ফারাজি পাড়া গ্রাম থেকে তার মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে পুলিশ। এ ঘটনায় জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের জন্য তিনজনকে আটক করা হয়েছে। পুলিশ ও স্থানীয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, শনিবার গভীর রাতে ওই যুবক ফারাজি পাড়া এলাকায় চুরি করতে আসেন বলে স্থানীয়দের সন্দেহ হয়। এ সময় এলাকাবাসী তাকে আটক করেন। পরে তাকে মারধর করলে ঘটনাস্থলেই তার মৃত্যু হয়। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে মরদেহ উদ্ধার করে। ঘটনাটি তদন্ত করে ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে জানিয়ে কুড়িগ্রাম সদর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) জাহাঙ্গীর আলম বলেন, নিহত যুবকের নাম-পরিচয় এখনো শনাক্ত করা যায়নি।
