Youth stabbed to death by cousin in Bagerhat

An young man was allegedly stabbed to death by his cousin during a late-night incident in Bagerhat town.

The incident took place around midnight on Thursday (May 15) in the Basabati Bainebari area of the district town.

The youth, identified as Amman, was the son of local resident A H M Taslim Mahmud.

According to family members and police, the accused cousin, Abdullah, had visited his aunt’s house earlier in the evening. After dinner, the two cousins went to sleep on the second floor of the house.

Family members said they rushed upstairs after hearing screams late at night and found Amman lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Relatives later detained Abdullah and handed him over to police. Officers also recovered a blood-stained knife from his possession.

Shamsul Arifin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagerhat Model Police Station, said, "Police reached the scene immediately after receiving the information and confirmed that the victim died from stab injuries."

The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, while investigators are working to determine the motive behind the killing.

Police said preparations are underway to file a murder case in connection with the incident.
