Youth stabbed to death over cricket match dispute in Cumilla

A youth died after being fatally stabbed in Brahmanpara of Cumilla following a dispute over a cricket match.

The deceased is Safiullah, 18.

The incident took place near Khanka Sharif in Dakshin Brahmanpara under the district's Sadar Upazila on Thursday night.

According to local sources, a dispute between Sanaullah, the younger son of coconut seller Ershad Mia, and one Hridoy over a cricket match escalated when Hridoy slapped Sanaullah. In response, Sanaullah's brother, Safiullah, confronted Hridoy, but was attacked by Hridoy and 7-8 others. Hridoy stabbed Safiullah multiple times.

Later, he was rushed to Brahmanpara Health Complex and later transferred to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him as dead.

Ershad Mia, Safiullah's father, said: "My innocent son was killed in a planned attack by Hridoy and his associates. I want justice."

Confirming the matter, Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-In-Charge Md Delwar Hossain, said: "A team from the police force visited the scene immediately after learning about the attack. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused soon."
