Youth who harassed woman on beach in DB custody

A youth named Md Faruqul Islam, who was accused of harassing and beating a woman on Cox's Bazar beach, has been taken into DB custody.

He was taken into police custody from the area adjacent to Bhola Babur petrol pump in Cox's Bazar city on Friday (September 13) night, said Javed Mahmud, officer-in-charge (OC) of detective branch of Cox's Bazar district police.

Accused Faruqul Islam hailed from Amirabad union of Lohagara upazila of Chattogram.

OC Javed said the matter came to our notice when the video of a woman being held by her ear and beaten with a stick went viral. He was later brought into DB custody for questioning on Friday (September 13) night. The young man initially admitted the incident. The matter is being supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Shakil Ahmed of the district police.
