Two swam away, one was taken into police custody, and Jalal was rescued unconscious. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy. One person is in custody and is being interrogated.

The SI added that earlier around 10:30pm, they had received information that 15–20 youths had gathered by the lake with sticks, but no one was found when police reached the spot. Later, Jalal was recovered from the lake unconscious. The deceased used to live in Sat Tola slum of Mohakhali. He previously worked in an AC company but was not engaged in any work recently.
