Youth’s body recovered from hotel room in Khulna

Police have recovered the body of a young man, identified as Sohel Rana alias Babu, from a room at a residential hotel in Khulna city. His alleged wife, Fatema, has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The body was recovered around 4:30am on Monday (September 21) from Room 10 on the second floor of Kopotakkho Residential Hotel on Khan Jahan Ali Road under Sadar Police Station.

Sohel Rana was the son of Lokman Fakir of the Harintana Auto Stand Road area under Labanchara Police Station.

According to police, Babu and Fatema checked into the hotel around 7pm on September 19, identifying themselves as husband and wife. They later got into an argument over a trivial matter. Police said Fatema allegedly strangled Babu with a scarf at one point.

After the incident came to light, police went to the hotel, recovered the body and sent it to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue. Fatema was taken to the police station.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lokman Hossain Ripon said Babu had another wife who lives in Dhaka, but he had no contact with her. He said Babu and Fatema had been in a long-term relationship and Fatema had been pressuring him to marry her.

The OC said Fatema initially confessed to police that she had strangled Babu with a scarf during an argument between them on Sunday night. Based on her statement, she was taken into custody.

The OC said the body would be handed over to the family after completion of the necessary legal procedures.
