Yunus chairs meeting to review law and order ahead of election

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the country’s law and order situation, directing authorities to maintain stability at all costs ahead of the upcoming national election.

The meeting was held at the state guest house Jamuna, the Chief Adviser’s press wing said on Monday (December 22).

Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, and senior officials from law enforcement and security agencies attended the meeting.

Discussions focused on security preparations related to the possible return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, as well as arrangements for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The meeting also reviewed progress in the arrest and investigation of those involved in the killing of Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Police said video analysis has identified 31 suspects linked to recent attacks on the offices of two national dailies and two cultural organisations. At least six suspects have been arrested in operations across Dhaka and other regions, with further arrests underway.

Police also identified three suspects involved in an attempted disturbance near the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram.
