After a long break, Bangladesh has returned to international cricket. The Tigers took the field today in the first ODI of a three-match series against Pakistan. To watch the national team’s first match under the new government on home soil, Zaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was present at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

She was seen in the gallery of the Mirpur stadium—known as the “Home of Cricket”—after noon. During the visit, she was welcomed by State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque. The Bangladesh Cricket Board also published photos of her presence.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party formed the government following the national election held on February 12. This match marks the first international game of the national cricket team since the new government assumed office.

Fortune favored the hosts at the toss. After winning the toss, Bangladesh sent Pakistan in to bat first. Returning wicketkeeper-batter Litton Kumar Das and Afif Hossain have been included in the playing XI.

However, ODI statistics favor Pakistan. In 39 encounters between the two sides so far, Bangladesh has won five matches while Pakistan has secured victory in 34.
