Zelensky urges Trump to help end Ukraine war
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to help stop the Ukraine war, just as he worked for peace in the Middle East.
In a phone call on Saturday (October 11), Zelensky told Trump that if one war can end, another can too, reports AFP.
The call came a day after a major Russian attack on Ukraine’s power system. Kyiv says diplomatic efforts have slowed recently, with global attention shifting to the Gaza conflict.
Trump earlier helped broker a temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August, though there was little progress on Ukraine.
Zelensky later wrote on Facebook: “I had a positive and meaningful talk with Donald Trump. I congratulated him for his role in the Middle East. If peace is possible there, it is possible here too.”
Their relationship has improved recently. Trump, once criticized for his stance, is now taking a tougher position on Russia and showing support for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia’s latest strikes killed at least five people on Saturday and disrupted power in parts of Odesa. Zelensky urged the world to focus on Ukraine again, strengthen air defenses, and impose stricter sanctions on Russia.
