Zia Orphanage Trust graft case: SC to hear Khaleda's petitions on Nov 10
The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has set November 10 for hearing two leave to appeal petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the High Court verdict that doubled her five-year jail term in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Chamber Judge Justice Md Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division set the date yesterday after Khaleda's lawyer, Kayser Kamal, made the request.
Earlier on on March 14, 2019, Khaleda Zia filed the petitions seeking to overturn her 10-year sentence.
Khaleda Zia was imprisoned on February 8, 2018, after a special court in Dhaka sentenced her to five years in connection with the case. The Anti-Corruption Commission later filed a petition, resulting in the High Court increasing her sentence to 10 years on October 30.
Additionally, the High Court has allowed Khaleda to prepare paper books for another appeal against a lower court judgment that sentenced her to seven years in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
