10 more children die of measles or measles-like symptoms in 24hrs
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said that 10 more children have died of measles or measles-like symptoms in the country in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of deaths has reached 294.
According to the regular report on the measles situation published on Sunday (May 3), out of the 10 children who died in the last 24 hours, one was directly diagnosed with measles. The remaining nine had measles-like symptoms.
According to the DGHS, new deaths have occurred in various divisions during this period. Of these, four children died in Dhaka division, two in Barisal, one in Chittagong, one in Khulna and one in Sylhet. It was reported that the death of one child was definitely due to measles in Dhaka.
In the last 24 hours, 1,166 more children across the country have developed measles symptoms. Regarding the situation, the DGHS said that the infection is still at an alarming level and the number of new cases is increasing every day.
The report said that since March 15, a total of 40,491 children have shown symptoms of measles in the country. At the same time, 27,816 children have been admitted to the hospital, of whom 24,090 have recovered and returned home.
According to the latest figures from the Directorate General of Health Services, a total of 5,313 children have been directly diagnosed with measles since March 15. During this period, 244 people have died due to measles symptoms, and another 50 children have died after being confirmed to have measles.
Health experts say that the death of so many children from a preventable disease like measles is a big warning for public health. If the vaccination program is not strengthened quickly, the situation may become more complicated.
The Directorate General of Health Services said that surveillance has been increased to control the situation. Various hospitals have been kept ready to ensure the treatment of affected children.
