10 more children die with measles symptoms, death toll crosses 550
Ten more children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms across the country, bringing the total death toll to 555, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday, May 26.
Among the new deaths, one child died from confirmed measles and nine from suspected measles symptoms.
Since March 15, a total of 88 children have died from confirmed measles, while 467 have died from suspected measles symptoms.
A total of 8,772 children have been confirmed with measles since March 15, while 66,023 suspected measles cases have been detected.
Dhaka division continues to record the highest number of confirmed measles deaths at 52, followed by Barishal with 19, Chattogram with 10, Sylhet with 3, and Mymensingh and Rajshahi with two each. For suspected measles, Dhaka division recorded 184 deaths, followed by Rajshahi with 83, Sylhet with 54, Chattogram with 44, Mymensingh with 40, Barishal with 35, Khulna with 21 and Rangpur with 6.
A total of 52,530 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised since March 15, of whom 48,800 have recovered and been discharged.
