100 more Pink Buses to be launched soon

As the 14 Pink Buses running on 13 routes for women to travel to schools, colleges and workplaces are inadequate, arrangements have been taken to launch 100 more buses at the earliest.

The matter was disclosed at the first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges of the 13th National Parliament at the National Parliament Building on Sunday, September 27. Committee Chairman and National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam presided over the meeting.

Committee members and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Lutfar Rahman, Md Ruhul Amin Dulal, Mohammad Aktaruzzaman, Neowaz Halima Arli, Md Rafiqul Islam Khan and Md Matiar Rahman participated in the meeting.

At special invitation, State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan joined the meeting.

At the start of the meeting, the Holy Quran was recited and an introductory session was held between all members of the standing committee and officials of the ministry, divisions and departments.

The meeting discussed informing standing committee members about the overall activities of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and its subordinate divisions and departments, and the ministry's plans and activities taken to bring discipline to roads and highways.

The committee recommended that the ministry take the initiative to arrange an on-site inspection by the parliamentary standing committee of the current state of the modern luxury resort built on 72 acres of land in the Karnaphuli Tunnel service area.

The meeting was informed that as the 14 Pink Buses running on 13 routes for women to travel to schools, colleges and workplaces are inadequate, arrangements have been taken to launch 100 more buses at the earliest. Additionally, to prevent road accidents, measures have been taken to identify risky intersections and accident-prone areas, straighten and widen them, and ensure that new projects being undertaken are made straight.

Secretaries of the Road Transport and Highways Division and the Bridges Division, senior officials of the ministry, divisions and departments and organisations, and concerned senior officials of the National Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
